Immersive, Empowering Learning

Understand Community Leadership

Whether it’s Peyton and Eli Manning, who organized airlifts of supplies; film director
Spike Lee, who documented the destruction for the world to see; or the survivors helpless in the path of the hurricane, hear the stories firsthand and consider how you can take the lead in your own community.

Make Change Happen in New Orleans

Develop civic responsibility, build confidence, and earn 60 service-learning credits for your efforts. You’ll help to revive a city with your own hands and feel what it means to be a part of something much larger than yourself. You can make a difference!

Preserve an Important History

Witness the devastation that still mars New Orleans’ timeless neighborhoods and landmarks. Discover the unique history and culture that make New Orleans worth preserving. People to People will contribute a minimum of $50,000 to local charities on behalf of your delegation.

Find Friendship with Like-Minded Peers

Work alongside People to People delegates and community members to build and beautify the Gulf Coast. Whether pounding nails or dancing to Dixieland jazz, the unforgettable moments will bond you to other volunteers who care about making the world a better place.

Build Lifelong Leadership Skills

Learn by example as you hear from
Condoleezza Rice, named one of the world’s most influential people, and General Russel Honoré, commander of the Katrina relief effort. Then practice your own team leadership as you tackle real-life challenges. Delegates in grades 9-12 will also be eligible to earn 55 high school credit hours during the program.

Become a Beacon of Hope

Carry forward the 50-year mission of People to People as you leave New Orleans a little better than you found it. You might restore a garden for community gatherings, provide service to those who are still homeless, or keep a family from living in ruins one more year.
